Kingston, Tennessee, has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1799. Situated in Roane County, the town played a significant role in Tennessee's development. In the early 19th century, Kingston emerged as a crucial transportation hub due to its location along the Tennessee River. During the Civil War, Kingston became a focal point of military operations. In 1861, Confederate forces briefly occupied the town, establishing Fort Southwest Point to protect the river routes.
